01. Event Overview & Purpose

The Golden Shot is an annual espresso-focused barista competition founded by Sweeto coffee club, a coffee culture platform. The competition celebrates espresso craft, creativity, and professional skill by bringing together baristas, judges, and brands across Asia.

Objectives:

・Elevate espresso brewing standards in the region

・Provide inclusive competition access for professionals and enthusiasts

・Connect Southeast Asian talent with the global coffee industry

In 2025, the League expands to the Philippines for the first time as part of its regional tour.

Rules and Regulations

1. 🕐 Competition Schedule per Competitor

Practice Time: 7 minutes

Each competitor will have 8 minutes for equipment calibration and warm-up (grinder adjustment and espresso machine operation).

Competition Time: 8 minutes

During which competitors must complete their espresso extractions.

Clean-Up Time: 3 minutes

Each competitor will have 5 minutes to clean and organize their station.

2. 🛠 Technical Evaluation

Time Violation:

The technical judge will monitor time. Exceeding the time limit by even 1 second will result in a deduction of 0.5 points from the total score.

Technical Violations:

   。Each espresso must meet the required volume of 30ml (excluding crema). Shots below this standard will not be scored.

   。Severe hygiene violations during competition may result in disqualification.

3. 📊 Scoring System

Espresso Completion Score:

Competitors must extract 8 espressos (30ml each, excluding crema) within the 8-minute time limit.

   。Full completion earns 20 points.

   。Incomplete shots result in 1-point deduction per shot (e.g., 7 valid shots = 19 points).

Time Deductions:

   。Time ends once the 8th shot is extracted.

   。0.5 points will be deducted for every second over the 8-minute time limit.

Speed Bonus (Top 3 fastest finishers):

   。1st: +5 points

   。2nd: +3 points

   。3rd: +1 point

Consistency Bonus (Sensory judges):

   。1st: +7 points

   。2nd: +5 points

   。3rd: +3 points

Flavor Bonus:

   。Professional Judges will evaluate the flavor profile of all submitted espresso shots.

   。Guest Judge will vote for the top 2 most popular espresso entries. Each selected barista will receive +1 point.

4. 󰥕 Judging Panel

Sensory Judges (2):

Responsible for evaluating flavor quality and consistency.

Technical Judge (1):

Responsible for timing, cleanliness, technical violations, and enforcing hygiene standards. Severe violations may result in disqualification.

Guest Judge (1):

Will taste and select the Top 2 Popular Flavor Picks, awarding +1 point to each selected competitor.

5.🏁 Results & Advancement

・Final scores will be announced after each round.

   。Popularity Bonus

・The Top 1 from each preliminary round of the Philippines will advance to the Finals to represent the Philippines at the International Grand Finals in Taiwan(November 2025), competing alongside champions from Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.

Full travel and accommodation (3 days, 2 nights) for the Taiwan Grand Finals will be fully sponsored.

・In case of a tie, the competitor with the highest consistency score will be declared the winner.

6. 📋 Rules & Conduct

・All competitors must strictly follow the competition rules and regulations.

・Proper hygiene and safety procedures must be followed at all times.

・The organizing committee reserves the right to disqualify any competitor who violates the rules.

・The organizers retain the final authority to interpret, amend, and enforce all competition rules.

7. Competition Equipment & Tools

The following equipment will be provided on-site for each competitor:

・1 × Portafilter

・1 × Digital Scale

・1 × Tamper

・1 × Knock Box or Tube

・10 × Espresso Measuring Glasses

・1 × Coffee Brush

・1 × Cloth (for portafilter cleaning)

・1 × Trash Bin

・1 × Water Bucket

Tool Guidelines:

・Competitors may bring their own tools, such as tamping mats, WDT tools, distribution tools, etc.

・However, the following items are fixed and may NOT be replaced or altered:

   。Espresso Measuring Glasses

   。Portafilter and Filter Basket

This ensures fairness and equipment consistency for all participants.
